There Are No Honest Poems About Dead Women is a new installation by artist and writer Jemma Desai that weaves together image, sound and text. Drawing from a lineage of thinkers, writers, musicians and artists, Desai uses the practice of citation to explore how power manifests, both as an inheritance and in the body and how this might be interrupted or refused.
The film is screened on the hour and has a running time of 54 minutes. Accompanying the work is a specially produced publication bringing together research and new writing by Jemma Desai, designed by Rose Nordin, available to read online.
There Are No Honest Poems About Dead Women was commissioned and developed in residence at Somerset House Studios.
