The Common Guild is a visual arts organisation based in Glasgow. It was established in 2006 and presents a dynamic, international programme of contemporary visual art projects, exhibitions, and events. These include exhibitions and non-gallery, one-off projects, talks and collaborations. We are committed to presenting artists’ work in interesting and engaging ways and aim to offer access to world- class contemporary art experiences and discussions.

Exhibitions have included solo shows by some of the leading artists of our time, including Roni Horn, Tacita Dean, Wolfgang Tillmans and Roman Ondák. We have also produced projects with Ruth Ewan, Janice Kerbel, Phil Collins and Simon Starling, and in 2013 we curated Scotland + Venice, the exhibition for the 55th International Art Exhibition, the Venice Biennale, with artists Corin Sworn, Duncan Campbell and Hayley Tompkins.

From 2008-2013 we worked in partnership with Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) on the ‘Art Fund International’ scheme, building a new collection of international contemporary work for the city, which included works by Emily Jacir, Matthew Buckingham and Lothar Baumgarten, among others, many of which are regularly on display at GoMA.

Our exhibition programme at 21 Woodlands Terrace drew to a close in December 2018 so that we could work on a longer-term plan to re-locate to more accessible premises.

Throughout 2019 we are presenting a series of talks that take place in a range of venues. We try to use accessible venues wherever possible.

All talks are audio recorded and made available online where appropriate. These can be found on the event pages on our website or on Soundcloud.

A large-print version of all our printed material is available on request.

We aim to keep ticket prices to a minimum, with all proceeds helping to support programme costs. Ticket prices are discounted for students and free for those that are unemployed (please bring proof of status with you). Booking is important as it helps us be sure of the numbers attending, which is especially important when there is limited seating.
